How much caffeine is there in Mateina yerba mate, and is there a suggested daily amount?Updated a month ago

Each ready-to-drink yerba mate energy brew contains 120 mg of caffeine.

For those who prefer to brew their own Yerba Mate, the amount of caffeine can vary depending on the method and amount used. For example:

  • A traditional Yerba Mate infusion using a gourd and bombilla can contain anywhere between 150 and 200 mg of caffeine if you use 50 grams of loose-leaf yerba mate and infuse it 15 times.
  • A cup of hot brewed Yerba Mate can contain anywhere between 80 and 150 mg of naturally occurring caffeine.
  • Yerba Mate in a tea bag typically contains around 25 mg of caffeine per cup.

For reference, the U.S. FDA suggests that healthy adults can safely consume up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day, which is approximately the amount found in four or five cups of coffee. However, individual tolerance to caffeine can vary greatly, and some people may experience sensitivity or negative effects at much lower doses.

As with any caffeinated beverage, we recommend being mindful of your body's response and adjusting your consumption accordingly. If you're concerned about your caffeine intake or have specific sensitivities, we encourage you to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized guidance.
